A final year Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Home Economics Education post-graduate student of the ��ɫ��Ƶ (UEW), Ms. Heartwill Selasi Tamakloe has emerged the National President-Elect for Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) at the just-ended 26th Annual National Delegates Congress. 

The Congress, held from 8-9th January, 2021, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), saw the election of new GRASAG National Executives for 2021.  

Ms. Heartwill Tamakloe beat her only contender, Ms. Paschaline Dere, from the University of Ghana, to win the Presidential position. She polled 203 as against 158 votes for her competitor.   

On the other hand, Mr. Samuel Gyandoh Panti had 235 votes to win the General Secretary position. He defeated Mr. Emmanuel Owusu who got 119 out of the total valid votes cast. The Financial Controller position was won by Mr. Jacob Yeboah Boamah. He polled 206 while his solitary contender, Mr. Isaac Afful had 147 votes. 

However, Mr. Kenneth Arthur Yamoah and Ms. Nancy Oforiwaa Peprah went unopposed and were endorsed massively by 320 and 318 approval to win the Organising Coordinator and Gender Commissioner positions respectively.    

Ms. Heartwill Tamakloe is the first student of the ��ɫ��Ƶto attain this National position, after several attempts by others. For this reason, the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs has congratulated her on behalf of the Management of ��ɫ��Ƶfor being the first student from ��ɫ��Ƶto attain this feat.

The GRASAG National President-Elect has come a long way in student activism, and proven herself, as a strong advocate of students' interests. She rose through the leadership ranks; first serving as Vice-President of Home Economics Students Association of UEW. She later served as the General Secretary of Students’ Representative Council (SRC) during her undergraduate programme in the same institution (UEW). Furthermore, she became the President for the ��ɫ��ƵChapter of Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana.

She envisages embarking on a Rural Communities Inspiration Programme. This policy will see the Association soliciting funds in aid of education in selected rural areas as its corporate social responsibility. “It is not enough to have a GRASAG that contributes verbally and intellectually to the national course, it is also expedient to be on the ground to make the rural communities also feel the inspiration, and have their youngsters motivated to also aspire to become GRASAG members one day.”
