Winneba Campus Hall Assistants Undergo Training

Hall Assistants on the Winneba Campus of the 九色视频 (UEW) have undergone a one-day training workshop to improve their skills and competencies to enable them execute their duties properly and conscientiously.

The workshop, which was organised by Hall Managers of the University with support from the Division of Human Resource, took place on Thursday, 5th聽September, 2019 at the Registrar鈥檚 Conference Room, North Campus, Winneba.

The Deputy Registrar, Division of Human Resource (HR), Mrs. Deborah Afful, who gave the purpose of the gathering, expressed delight about the insightfulness of the Hall Managers to equip Hall Assistants for the 2019/2020 academic year.

The Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Ernest Kwesi Amponsah in his welcome address called for concerted efforts of all staff including Hall Assistants for the success of UEW.

There were presentations by the Ghartey Hall Manageress, Ms. Patricia Appiah-Boateng and the Senior Assistant Registrar and Webmaster, Mr. Jojoe Annan. They presented on the topics 鈥淲ork Ethics & Professionalism鈥 and 鈥淔ront Desk Management鈥.聽

In her presentation, Ms. Patricia Appiah-Boateng indicated that ethics deals with standards of duty and virtue that should be exhibited at the work place. She added that ethics entails how an 鈥渉onourable鈥 person should behave. According to her, the key issues for consideration at the workplaces for increased productivity are skills, character and the system in general. She maintained that character is the fulcrum of ethics and so it is very essential to build a strong and positive character. She pointed out that there are six pillars of character which include trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, care and citizenship. In her view, ethics and professionalism go hand-in-hand. Thus, as Hall Assistants, truthfulness, open disclosure of issues and sincerity should be paramount in the discharge of duty.

Mr. Annan who presented on behalf of the Head, University Relations Office and Media, Ms. Obaapanin Adu Oforiwaa, reminded the Hall Assistants that their reception area was the first point of contact for visitors coming to the various halls of residence. Therefore, Front Desk Management plays a vital role in making a positive impression and makes the running of the office smooth.

The Hall Managers for Simpa, Aggrey, and University Halls who gave brief remarks after the presentations reiterated on the need for Hall Assistants to stay focused and committed to duty.
