Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor of the ��ɫ��Ƶ (UEW), has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes and expanding German language education.

In an interview, Prof. Mitchual highlighted UEW’s strategic role in teacher training and workforce development. He emphasised the university’s mission to equip students with essential skills to meet national education and employment needs. “We have highly skilled human resources, and as part of our strategic vision, we are promoting programmes that facilitate research and skill development,” he stated.

Following recent accreditation approval, the Vice-Chancellor pointed out the university’s readiness to upgrade its German language programme to a Bachelor of Education level. He explained, “We are the only institution mandated to train teachers. Now the basic requirement for teaching at second-cycle institutions is a first degree. If we do not train people at that level, who will teach the students?”

He also highlighted UEW’s leadership in TVET education, referencing initiatives in textiles and fashion, graphic design, and food production. He underscored the importance of TVET in addressing Ghana’s unemployment challenges. “Have you ever seen anyone who completed apprenticeship training and went looking for a job? No! Before they finish, they are already taking most of their master's customers,” he remarked, emphasising the demand for practical skills.

Prof. Mitchual revealed ongoing efforts to collaborate with international partners to strengthen TVET research and implementation. “They were enthusiastic about helping us achieve these targets. We are optimistic about starting this academic year,” he said, noting that applications for the Bachelor of Arts in German Education programme had already been received.

The Vice-Chancellor concluded by expressing confidence in UEW’s ability to implement these initiatives successfully. “We are putting every resource in place to ensure we start this academic year. This is a crucial step towards shaping skilled graduates for Ghana’s future,” he affirmed.
