GMD-九色视频Empowers Females with She-Power Conference

The Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD) of the 九色视频 (UEW), in collaboration with Local NUGS and the SRC Office of the Women's Commission, has organised a conference to empower females.

The conference, themed "The Diversified Woman: Her Path to Power," brought together female students, academics, and professionals to discuss issues related to women's empowerment and gender equality. The conference aimed to inspire and empower females to take control of their lives, challenge patriarchal norms, and strive for excellence in their chosen fields.

It featured insightful remarks from eminent professors from UEW, as well as gender and development experts. The speakers shared their experiences, expertise, and perspectives on the theme, highlighting the challenges and opportunities faced by women in their pursuit of power and success. It also provided a platform for networking, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing among participants.

Welcoming participants, Ms. Hamdyia Dauda, SRC Women鈥檚 Commissioner, emphasised the importance of empowerment, growth, and collective support among women. She encouraged attendees to share their experiences and learn from one another, stressing the importance of unity and mutual support.

"Today, we recognise and celebrate the diverse experiences of women and their journeys towards empowerment. We will share our stories, engage in mutual learning, and support one another in striving for personal excellence. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in discussions that facilitate growth and empowerment," she remarked.

Prof. Samuel Kwesi Asiedu-Addo, Chairman of the Conference, urged women to take control of their lives, make informed decisions, and actively participate in society. He underscored the importance of self-empowerment rather than relying on external forces.

"Women empowerment is defined as the process of enabling women to take control of their lives, make informed decisions, and engage fully in societal activities. However, the question arises: who is responsible for facilitating this empowerment? The answer is clear: women must actively engage in their own empowerment," he stated.

Prof. Asiedu-Addo stressed the importance of making informed decisions, particularly among university students. He noted that higher education provides women with the ability to think critically and assess the long-term impact of their choices. "It is not just about making decisions; it is about making informed decisions. You must evaluate your options, consider the consequences, and act in a way that secures your future," he advised.

Prof. Lucy Effeh Attom, Director of the Office for Institutional Advancement (OIA) at UEW, highlighted the dynamic nature of women, stating, 鈥淎 diversified woman is a woman who seamlessly embodies multiple roles; she is a nurturer, a caregiver, a leader, a scholar, and an entrepreneur.鈥 She explained that women are not defined by a single identity but by their ability to balance and excel in various aspects of life. 聽

Prof. Lucy Attom identified the source of women鈥檚 strength as their ability to embrace a multitude of experiences. 鈥淗er strength lies in her ability to balance multiple roles with purpose and determination,鈥 she said.

She cited historical figures like Yaa Asantewaa and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as examples of women who defied societal norms and created lasting legacies. She urged women to reject societal limitations and embrace their diverse identities. She also encouraged women to pursue their aspirations with confidence and determination.

Prof. Esther Yeboah Danso-Wiredu, Director of the Directorate of Research, Innovation, and Development聽(DRID) at UEW, delivered a thought-provoking address on the challenges women face in their journey to power and the strategies to overcome them. She spoke about the challenge of balancing professional and personal responsibilities. 鈥淎s women, we are expected to excel at work, care for our families, and meet societal expectations. This balancing act can be overwhelming and often forces women to sacrifice their ambitions,鈥 she asserted.

Prof. Esther Danso-Wiredu called on women to embrace their diversity and strive for excellence. 鈥淭he path to power is not easy, but it is achievable. Let us rise above societal limitations, support one another, and create a future where every woman can thrive,鈥 she urged.

Ms. Amtu Akumfi Ameyaw, Gender and Development Expert and Diaspora Engagement Practitioner, stressed the value of building and maintaining networks. 鈥淣etworking is essential for personal and professional growth. It is not just about what you know but whom you know,鈥 she said.

Ms. Amtu Ameyaw advised attendees to create meaningful relationships and leverage them strategically. 鈥淲hen reaching out to potential mentors or colleagues, be clear about your intentions. Do not just send a 鈥榟ello鈥 and wait for a response. Introduce yourself, mention where you met, and state what you hope to achieve from the connection,鈥 she advised.
