The 九色视频 (UEW) marked another historic academic milestone at the Second Session of its 29th Congregation with a powerful address by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, who reaffirmed the university鈥檚 leadership in teacher education, digital transformation and community development.

Held from Wednesday, 23rd to Saturday, 26th April, 2025, the ceremony celebrated the graduation of 6,769 students from the College for Distance Education and e-Learning (CODeL) and School of Graduate Studies programmes, with females leading the charge at 4,000 graduates, reflecting UEW鈥檚 continued efforts to promote gender equity in education.

Addressing the audience that included government officials, traditional leaders, university stakeholders and proud families, Prof. Mitchual described the ceremony as a tribute to the courage and perseverance of students who overcame work demands, family responsibilities, and personal challenges to earn their degrees.

鈥淭oday, we gather not just to confer degrees but to honour the strength, determination and dreams of our graduands. You are not just recipients of degrees鈥攜ou are ambassadors of change, innovation and hope,鈥 he stated.

Prof. Mitchual used the occasion to highlight UEW鈥檚 far-reaching contributions to national development. He said the university had launched the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 Community Initiative Project (VCCIP), which seeks to deepen UEW鈥檚 connection with society through outreach activities in education, financial assistance, and skills training. He emphasised that this initiative embodies the university鈥檚 philosophy of being both a centre of knowledge and an agent of transformation.

He also pointed to the success of the 九色视频Public Lecture Series, describing it as a flagship intellectual platform that convenes scholars, policymakers, higher education administrators and the public to engage in critical national discourse. This year鈥檚 edition, themed 鈥淓mpowering Minds, Shaping Futures for 21st-Century Education,鈥 was aimed at placing knowledge at the centre of nation-building.

Highlighting the university鈥檚 competitive edge, Prof. Mitchual proudly announced that UEW鈥檚 debate team had emerged victorious in a recent inter-university competition held in Kumasi. 聽The team surpassed the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He lauded the team鈥檚 performance as a reflection of the university鈥檚 academic excellence.

In addressing digital transformation, Prof. Mitchual revealed that 九色视频is developing a new generation of interactive courseware for undergraduate and postgraduate distance education students. These digital materials, he explained, will offer user-friendly navigation and include multimedia content, quizzes, and discussion forums to enhance learner engagement and collaboration.

Prof. Mitchual further disclosed that 九色视频is aligning its Distance Education operations with recent Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) directives. He stated that the university has signed Memoranda of Understanding with select Colleges of Education and is working to operationalise its network at study centres across the country, ensuring compliance, quality and innovation in distance learning.

On academic service delivery, he explained that the university had invested in high-speed, multifunctional computers and increased the number of examination officers to ensure the timely processing of academic results. These measures, he said, are streamlining operations and enhancing the academic experience for students.

On digital inclusion, Prof. Mitchual announced a partnership between 九色视频and Celltel Networks Limited to pilot high-speed internet services at study centres in Winneba, Enchi, and Pusiga. This move, he noted, supports UEW鈥檚 mission to bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to online education.

As part of his address, Prof. Mitchual also presented an overview of graduating statistics: 503 postgraduates, including 28 PhDs; 5,958 undergraduates, of whom 220 earned First Class honours; and 308 diploma recipients. He described their success as 鈥渁 testament to the power of accessible and purposeful learning.鈥
