In this study, a comparative analysis was performed to investigate the effectiveness of the performance of regular and remedial (private) students in elective West African Examination Council science examinations in Ghana. The study uses aggregated secondary data from 2007 to 2016. The trend, mean difference, and correlation analysis were used to analyze the data to compare the performance of remedial and regular WAEC students. It was found that there is a difference between the performance of regular and private students. The trend analysis shows that regular students performed better than private students. The research also revealed that higher passes are associated with lower failures in the elective science subject. Regular students perform better than remedial students and participating in remedial science education does not imply that the student will pass the remedial examination. The study recommends that remedial schools should be well equipped to offer remedial students the same opportunities as regular science students.
